Malalane - A teenager accused of killing a cop and sodomising three inmates while awaiting trial on housebreaking charges, has been given a three-month sentence for the burglary.
Goodman Nkambule, 19, of Jeppes Reef near the Swaziland border in Mpumalanga is accused of sodomising two inmates at the Barberton prison in August and a 21-year-old man in the Schoemansdal police holding cells in June.
He is also accused of killing Constable Justice Thabo Nkosi, 29, of the Schoemansdal police station last year when the constable opened the back of the police van so that he could take Nkambule to the holding cells.
Nkambule was being taken into custody for the housebreaking case. He was convicted for housebreaking when he appeared in the Boschfontein periodical court on Thursday.
The burglary took place on May 6 2006 when Nkambule broke into Khabonina Mamba's house at about 03:00. Mamba heard a noise and called the police who responded quickly and arrested Nkambule.
Meanwhile, Nkambule's murder trial is scheduled for November 7 in the Nelspruit circuit of the Pretoria High Court. He is also scheduled to appear in the Boschfontein periodical court on October 30 for three cases of indecent assault.
