Road carnage continues

Umtata - Eight people died in road accidents in and around Umtata on Saturday, Eastern Cape police spokesperson Nondumiso Jafta said.
The first accident, that claimed the lives of four people, happened on the N2 between Kokstad and Mount Ayliff. A taxi with 14 passengers hit a car head-on. The drivers of both vehicles were killed as were two passengers.
Two people were killed and another two injured when a car overturned at Mgqumo junction between Idutywa and Umtata. The injured were taken to Umtata General Hospital.
In Nzwakazi village between Nqeleni and Umtata a police inspector was killed while crossing the road on Saturday night. The driver of the minibus which hit him was to be charged with culpable homicide, Jafta said.
Finally a 19-year-old man died when the vehicle he was travelling in overturned on a dirt road in Goqwana village in Tsolo at 22:00 the same night.
