Father told to rape own child

2008-09-04 21:16

Cape Town - Alleged serial rapist Tsediso Letsoenya ordered a father to rape his own teenage daughter, the Cape High Court heard on Thursday.

The father, who may not be named, told the court that he and his daughter, then aged 15, had visited friends together and were on their way home at 19:20 in September four years ago.

He said they chatted at the family home that he had just finished building and they were only about 200 metres from their home when Letsoenya came running up to them from behind.

Letsoenya shouted to them to stop and pointed a gun at them, he said.

He said Letsoenya demanded "jewellery, money, cellphones and everything" from him.

The father said he took off his hat as a gesture of respect and told Letsoenya that he had nothing and that he was on his way home with his daughter.

Letsoenya then ordered him to undress.

The father said he hesitated, and Letsoenya told him that he was working for a Satanist and that he should not waste Letsoenya's time.

The face of crime

The father added, "He said he was the face of crime, and that he was busy working."

The father said his daughter was behind him, crying.

The father said he started to undress slowly when Letsoenya demanded: "I said take all your clothes off."

The father said he undressed but kept his underwear on, and at the same time tried to shield his daughter behind him by stretching out both arms.

Letsoenya then shouted to him to undress completely.

The father said: "I was naked, and still tried to shield my daughter behind me.

"He then ordered my daughter to undress also.

"I asked him how he can expect a young child to undress in his presence, but he said she must and that she must hurry.

"When we were both naked, he led us to a spot nearby where he ordered me to rape my own daughter.

"I refused, and he fired a shot.

"I told him this was wrong in the eyes of the Lord."

'I'll do it'

Letsoenya then told the father that if the father can't rape his own daughter he must stand aside so that Letsoenya could rape her.

The father said he stood aside but Letsoenya instead stuck his gun in front of his pants and ran off in the direction of a railway bridge, without raping the girl.

Letsoenya has pleaded not guilty to 104 charges, including 39 of rape and 33 of indecent assault.

The case, before Judge Abe Motala and assessors Bob Martin and Errol Keeton, continues on Monday.
