Johannesburg - Over a quarter of the rapes reported in Johannesburg's inner city were gang rapes, a study to be released on International Women's Day has found.
"We found that more than one in four of rapes reported at these stations involved multiple perpetrators," the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR) said in a statement on Friday.
The results were from a study by the gender-based violence programme of the CSVR which analysed 162 rapes reported during one year at six police stations serving the inner city.
The study also found differences between rapes committed by lone rapists and those by multiple rapists.
The results of the study would be released on International Women's Day on March 8.
