ANC Whip sentenced for homicide

Johannesburg - Free State African National Congress Chief Whip Playfair Morule was fined of R36 000, or 12 months' imprisonment, in the Bloemfontein Regional Court on Wednesday for culpable homicide.
He received another 24 months imprisonment, suspended for five years on condition he is not convicted for reckless or negligent driving in this period.
Morule's attorney Nico Naude said the court had granted leave to appeal.
Onikwa Mtila, 21, died in September 2006 in a hit-and-run accident involving a vehicle driven by Morule.
At the time of the accident, Morule was the Free State MEC for safety and security.
