Johannesburg - A man shot his girlfriend in front of her sister, a Johannesburg metro police officer in Diepkloof, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said on Wednesday.
The metro police officer was helping her sister fetch her bags from her security guard boyfriend's home on Tuesday after they broke up following an argument, he said.
However, once inside the house, the man locked his ex-girlfriend in a room with him. Realising he was armed, the metro policewoman forced the door open.
Minnaar said the man took out a firearm and shot his ex-girlfriend twice in her upper body then turned the gun on her sister, but she managed to get away unharmed. She returned with back-up to find her sister dead.
The gunman was tracked to his work address in Rivonia where he was arrested.
He had since been taken to Diepkloof Police Station and charged with murder and attempted murder.
He would be kept in the police station's holding cells until his appearance in the Protea Magistrate's Court. It was not yet known when he would appear in court, said Minnaar.
