KZN principal shot dead

Eshowe - A 55-year-old school principal was shot dead by gunmen who opened fire on the car she was driving near Ngwelezana in the Umfolozi area, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Friday.
Autrie Sebenzile Biyela of Masakhane school, near Empangeni, was travelling from the school along the Ndabayake road, conveying two passengers, when two men opened fire on the car on Thursday afternoon, Captain Tienkie van Vuuren said in a statement.
"As they neared the Empangeni river in Ndabayake area the suspects opened fire with automatic rifles on Biyela's vehicle, fatally wounding her," Van Vuuren said.
A woman who was in the car with Biyela suffered a bruise to her shoulder. A 17-year-old boy accompanying the women was unhurt.
Biyela was well known in the area and an active member of the Esikhawini taxi association.
Empangeni police were investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.
The motive for the killing was unknown.
