Cape Town 'high on sex'

Cape Town - A snap poll of Capetonians last week reveals that citizens of the Mother city count among the most sexually liberal individuals in South Africa.

The poll, conducted by Sexpo, revealed that more than half of the respondents admit to exploring their sexuality well beyond the missionary position.

Cape Town is well ahead of the national curve when it comes to owning sex toys, says Sexpo organiser Silas Howarth.

"Our national survey last year indicated that one in four women own a toy of some sort; more than half of Cape Town women admit to owning a naughty novelty at some point."

Different sexual persuasions

Capetonians are also having more sex, exceeding the national average of 65% (Sexpo Sex Survey 2007) of couples whom have sex at least once a week by 7%.

The Mother City is also the most welcoming of different sexual persuasions, with one of the largest openly accepted gay and lesbian communities in the country.

Sixty-three percent of respondents say that sexual preference should not be defined by gender, but more importantly, by individuals.

Seventeen percent of women admit to having experimented with bi-curious same sex relations while a 54% say that it's at the top of their fantasy chart.

Popular romp spots

Most Capetonians know of someone who has enjoyed nookie in spaces outside the bedroom at some of the city's more popular romp spots.

Top ranked venues include Rhodes Memorial, Lion's Head and the beach.

Interestingly 4% of respondents admit to either having joined the mile high club or knowing someone who has.

When it comes to appreciating the human form, 46% of unisex Capetonians agree that buttocks are a real turn on while 78% of straight men predictably noted breasts as top of the eye candy hit parade.

Sensually expressive society

Funnily enough, cup size was not high on the agenda but shape, form and firmness enjoyed the most attention.

Women ranked men's hands, eyes and lips as attraction points.

"South African sexuality is really coming into its own," says Howarth.

"We are moving towards a liberal, responsible and sensually expressive society - it's incredible to experience.

"Imagine when, as recently as 18 years ago, one would have been arrested for simply daring to smuggle a naughty magazine into the country or locked up for expressing one's sexual preference.

"We have come a long way and it's time to celebrate!"

Pricasso at Sexpo

Sexpo, the world's largest adult sexuality, health and lifestyle exhibition will be at the ICC in Cape Town between 8 and 11 May 2008.

The event, which has seen thousands of South Africans leave their inhibitions at home, will offer more than 120 exhibitors ranging from the strictly naughty through to adult lifestyle and health.

Sexpo Cape Town will feature a stellar line up of adult entertainment.
