Durban - KwaZulu-Natal taxi boss Xolani Brian Sibisi, also known as Ebrahim, was found shot dead in his bakkie near Inanda Mission, north of Durban on Sunday morning, police confirmed.
Spokesperson Captain Gugu Sabela said his body had been found by a passer-by on Sunday morning and that the motive behind the alleged murder was unknown. He was last seen on Saturday night leaving Inanda taxi rank, she said.
Meanwhile, the province's Transport MEC S'bu Ndebele said Sibisi had led the Concerned Operators group and was one of the few who refused to succumb to party political intervention.
"When the taxi process hit a snag, it was Xolani who pulled us out of a jam. Just recently in Ladysmith it was him again who was dispatched there to diffuse a situation."
Ndebele added that Sibisi always emphasized that the department of transport was not an enemy but a partner in the taxi industry.
Sibisi was a recent convert to Islam and was scheduled to be buried on Sunday, said the police spokesperson.
