Robber killed in botched heist

Johannesburg - One robber was shot dead, another wounded and a security guard seriously hurt after an attempted cash-in-transit heist in Thembisa, North Rand police said on Saturday.
Superintendent Eugene Opperman said Coin Security Guards were collecting money from a BP petrol station in the Sedibeng Section in Thembisa around 09:30 when a group of armed men tried to rob them.
"There was a shootout between the security guards and the robbers. One of the robbers was shot dead and another was shot in the arms," said Opperman.
One of the security guards was seriously hurt and taken to a local hospital.
The surviving robbers escaped and no money was taken.
It was not known how many men were involved.
Police recovered three stolen firearms and opened a case of armed robbery and attempted murder.
