Johannesburg - South Africa is considering subsidising farmers to ensure their competitiveness and survival, the SABC reported on Friday.
"Sustainable farming is at the centre of the storm and the issue of subsidising SA farmers must be resolved," Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana told an International Labour Organisation (ILO) conference in Geneva.
"The success of the ILO's aims of ensuring decent work and increasing employment hinges on coping with the current crisis."
He said that mass action was an unavoidable consequence of the effects of global food and fuel prices.
