Mafikeng - A staff strike at the University of the North-West (UNW) at Mafikeng has been suspended indefinitely, a university spokesperson said on Friday.
Theo Rossouw said the UNW Staff Association (USA) on Friday morning ended a strike that had started on Tuesday afternoon.
About 90% of the university's 811 staff belonged to the USA.
The USA and university management were scheduled to meet next week to settle issues including salaries and promotions.
In the meantime, classes had resumed and "everything was back to normal," Rossouw said.
The UNW, which has a student body numbering about 6 900, draws most of its students from the North-West Province as well as neighbouring Botswana.
Its five faculties are education, law, human and social sciences, commerce and administration, agriculture, science and technology. Within these there are 38 specialist departments.
