Pretoria - A 19-year-old man told the Temba Circuit High Court on Thursday he believed he had shot a 17-year-old woman he had raped twice in the face.
"If memory serves me correctly I fired two shots into her face," Kekana told the court of his attempt to kill the 17-year-old woman after he testified that he raped her.
William Kekana, 19, changed his original plea of not guilty to guilty on 10 of the 14 counts against him, including that of raping and attempting to murder a 17-year-old teenager who is now the only eye witness. He also confessed to kidnapping the family and the 17-year-old.
Didn't see murder
His alleged accomplice, Charles Fido Baloyi, was killed during his arrest.
Kekana said on Thursday he did not see Baloyi kill Janine Drennan, 24, or her daughter, Kayla, because he was "still raping" the 17-year-old at the back of the car.
Standing in the witness box, Kekana gave his account of events on July 31, 2003 that led to the murder of Hester Rawstone, 52, her granddaughter Kayla, one, the rape and murder of Drennan and the rape and attempted murder of the 17-year-old woman who was abducted in Stinkwater.
Kekana, said Baloyi, who was his brother-in-law, had demanded his bakkie back from Kekana moments before the murders because of the way he "abused" his vehicle.
The 17-year-old woman was abducted in Stinkwater so that Kekana "would not stand and watch as Fido raped the white woman", Kekana said.
