Johannesburg - Eight British tourists were killed along with a pedestrian near Bergville in northern KwaZulu-Natal in a road accident, said a transport ministry spokesperson on Thursday.
Logan Maistry said the accident happened on Wednesday evening when a minibus overturned after trying to avoid hitting a pedestrian.
"Eight British tourists died and a pedestrian was killed. Six died on the spot and two died of their injuries in hospital," he said.
Bergville police officer captain Joshua Gwala identified the dead pedestrian as a 20-year-old South African.
He said the driver of the bus and four other passengers were injured in the crash.
