Durban - Shots fired by a "samaritan" stopped two armed robbers from making off with a money box that they tried to steal from a security guard at a Durban railway station, KwaZulu-Natal police said.
Spokesperson Superintendent Muzi Mngomezulu said the security guard had collected a money box from the busy Berea Road railway station when he was approached by two men wielding handguns.
They disarmed the security guard and took the money box.
"At that time a samaritan fired shots prompting the security guard to activate the alarm on the money box," he said.
The two men dropped the money box and fled on foot.
No one was injured and ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said the security guard was treated for shock.
