Johannesburg - An unknown woman is being sought after a seven-year-old Vereeniging girl went missing at a taxi rank, police said on Saturday.
Captain Shado Mashobane said Lerato Radiopane went missing on Friday afternoon after her mother put her in a taxi from Orangeville on her own.
The girl's grandmother was supposed to pick her up from the Vereeniging taxi rank.
However, Mashobane said it was alleged that the taxi the girl was in got to the rank before her grandmother arrived and its driver left the child with a queue marshall at the facility.
The marshall told the police that an unknown woman took the child from him, believing that the woman was the child's grandmother.
The 1.2m tall girl nicknamed "Baby" was last seen wearing blue jeans, a pink top with a purple sweater.
Anyone with information that may lead to finding the girl can contact Inspector Lindie Locke on 016 450 2566 or 083 291 1096.
