Fire guts two stores in ECape

Johannesburg - A supermarket and a furniture store in the Eastern Cape have been gutted by fire when a group of homeless lit a fire in an attempt to stay warm on Christmas Eve.
Police captain Ursula Roelofse said the homeless people were burning cardboard behind the OK Food store and Barnett's Furniture Shop in Sterkspruit.
The fire spread to a nearby paraffin tank, which caught alight.
The fire spread to the two stores nearby.
Roelofse estimates the damage to the supermarket at R10m.
