Johannesburg - Sixty four of Gauteng's most wanted criminals were arrested in the province on Friday for crimes ranging from hijacking to ATM bombings, said Gauteng police.
The suspects were arrested during the wacha tsotsi [burn the criminal] operation between 00:00 and 06:00 on Friday.
"The operation was aimed at arresting the most wanted suspects in house and business robbing, cash-in-transit robberies and ATM bombings," said Captain Julia Claassen.
Some of those arrested were new suspects who had arrest warrants issued out for them.
During the operation police recovered five stolen cars and six unlicenced firearms and confiscated drugs with a street value of R250 000.
All the suspects would appear in different courts to face their charges, Claassen said.
