4 die in freeway crash

Cape Town - Four people have died after a collision between a bus and a car on the N1 freeway outside Worcester on Sunday, Western Cape police said.

Inspector November Filander said the four - aged between 17 and 39 - were all occupants of a BMW that was driving in the same direction as the bus.

However, the driver of the car made a sudden U-turn and the bus crashed into the car's side.

Filander said there were nine people in the BMW.

"The bus drove into the right side of the car, killing four of the occupants, including the 39-year-old driver," he said.

Five women who were injured were taken to a nearby hospital.

One of the women had serious head injuries and was transferred to Tygerberg hospital.

The occupants of the bus were unharmed.
