Washington - The American pastor who initiated the Seven Days of Sex challenge among his flock had to find inventive ways to complete the challenge because he and his wife were coming to South Africa.
Rev Ed Young and his wife, Lisa, of the Fellowship Church in Texas, will be preaching at the Rivers Church in Sandton this coming weekend. This is the congregation of Rev André Olivier and his wife, Wilma.
The Youngs raised some eyebrows in the US with their challenge of seven days of "congregational copulation" among married couples.
They encouraged couples to become "sexperts" in this "sexperiment" (that ended on Monday).
But the Youngs, who literally took the lead in this project, had to leave for Britain and South Africa in the middle of their programme.
Young preached in London and will be preaching in Sandton, Johannesburg on 29 and 30 November.
Whirlwind
"I'm not even sure what day it is We've been going at such a whirlwind pace getting ready to go to London and Johannesburg that it's been a challenge to keep the challenge!" he wrote on his blog.
"But don't worry. Lisa and I haven't bailed out. It's just made us think more about our strategy to make time to make love.
"And there are so many things that Lisa and I have discovered so far."
The challenge elicited a mixed reaction among his parishioners.
One woman wrote that she and her husband were all set to go - when he got the flu.
"Yeah, OK, I'm, a man and I thought the challenge was fantastic, but after five days I'm on the floor, man. I'm taking vitamins and supplements for more stamina. It's more difficult than I thought... PS: If I fall asleep in church on Sunday, you'll know why! Ha-ha!" a man wrote to Rev Young.
Sermon from a bed
As he delivered his sermon from a large bed in front of the pulpit, Rev Young said it was time to put the bed back in the church - and to put God back in the bed.
Making love is part of a [married] man and woman's worship. It's part of their discipleship.
Married couples have too many excuses not to make love; that's why Rev Young told them to "Just do it!".
