'They will fix my daddy'

2008-01-08 13:23

Pretoria - The three-year-old son of the British citizen who was shot and killed in Waterkloof Ridge, Pretoria, over the weekend still believes he will see his father again.

Fred Picton-Turbervill, 46, was shot in the head by two robbers in front of his family on Saturday night.

"They are going to fix my daddy," his son Gregory told family friend Kim Tucker.

Tucker said Picton-Turbervill's wife Ursula, 41, and daughters Samantha, 10, Bryony, 9, and Natasha, 6, who all witnessed the murder, were "absolutely devastated".

On Tuesday Picton-Turbervill's son, Jamie, 21, from a previous marriage and his mother Cathryn also arrived from Britain for the funeral - which was scheduled to take place on Thursday.

Picton-Turbervill had been living in South Africa since 2003 and would also be buried here.

Police spokesperson Captain Solly Marindi said police had no new leads in the case which saw two armed men entered Picton-Turbervill's home on Saturday night and murdering him before taking a laptop, four cell phones, a handbag and R500 in cash.

British High Commission spokesperson Russ Dixon said the commission was ready to offer any assistance if it was needed.

The incident took place very close to the residence of national police commissioner Jackie Selebi.

The two attackers apparently ordered the family at gunpoint to lie on the ground and demanded money.

When Picton-Turbervill asked if the children could be taken to another room he was shot by one of the robbers who then forced his wife to take them through the house to collect valuables.

The killers then fled from the house.

Picton-Turbervill was rushed to hospital where he died.
