R45 000 fine for speeding drunk

2008-07-11 12:02

Durban - The Scottburgh Magistrate's Court has handed down a R45 000 fine to a 21-year-old man caught speeding while drunk on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast.

KwaZulu-Natal transport spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu said Kyle Hudson appeared in court on Thursday afternoon.

He was caught driving a Volkswagen Golf on the N2 freeway near Scottbugh on March 22.

"He was found to be four times over the legal limit," said Mngomezulu.

This guy is suicidal, he needs to see a psycologist ASAP!!!

Peggy 7/11/2008 12:37:47 PM
This is honestly a complete joke! I was caught 4 times over the limit as well and the case was thrown out of court. Now...R45 000 speeding fine is ridiculous! Don't the authorities have something better to do like catching rapists/hijackers etc. Please...

My opinion is the reckless bastard should have been given jail time aswell this should be changed from drunken driving to attempted murder any one who climbs into a car drunk is a potential murderer and should be treated as such

Sledge 7/11/2008 12:58:45 PM
Shame.poor guy!!!

MP3 7/11/2008 1:05:33 PM
Unlikely he'd forget being 21 anytime soon. R45 000 fine has away of sticking in your mind. lol, let that serve as a warning to all you other drunk drivers who endanger other peoples lives.

kb 7/11/2008 1:13:12 PM
In my book Mr Hudson should not have the option of paying his way out of this. Jail time should be mandatory. In his condition he could have killed people.

Siphiwe 7/11/2008 1:27:12 PM
He might as well sell his car to pay this fine, not to say I feel sorry for the poor guy but, the are really killing him.

Les 7/11/2008 1:31:07 PM
Throw the book at him BUT also throw the book at politicians and judges who drive drunk, whether they speed or not. This selective justice is absolute BS!!

Andre 7/11/2008 1:31:15 PM
I hope that the drunk racist judge that drove his jag through a wall get a R90,000 fine.He made an accident being mortheless drunk and is supose to punish stupid young offenders as in this case.Maybe the white laws aply diffirently to whites than blacks. We ill see.

No where in the article it says how fast he was going. Besides the fact the he was drunk, what is the speed to justify a fine like that?

Ian 7/11/2008 1:48:20 PM
Are you serious? 4 times over the limit and he gets a fine. Confiscate the license, community service, jail time. Clearly sends a message it is alright to be over the limit. At least should have license suspended, fine and community service. Jail time may be harsh but if going to fight crime we must set parameters so that citizens know what is acceptable.

Chris H 7/11/2008 1:49:36 PM
Every weekend authorities report on how many people they catch speeding over 200kph. The perpetrators always get a fine. When are the authorities going to start jailing people. They have the power but obviously not the courage to do so. It's the only way to stop this insanity. Jail the first few and word will get out very fast.

Peggy, u so cool, I wish we could all be like u! MORON!!! Way more people are killed on our roads than murdered, and it is by idiots like u! Do everyone a favour, and go play in the traffic!! I case for Gattica if I ever saw one!

Gary 7/11/2008 1:54:33 PM
The authorities should charge him for attempted murder and you should to peggy as when you drive drunk you have more of a chance of killing someone you twit!

charlie 7/11/2008 1:54:58 PM
luckily he was caught before he could kill some innocent law abiding roaduser.he should have been locked up and sent for re-hab treatment over and above the fine!

Gav 7/11/2008 1:56:24 PM
4 times over the limit and your case was thrown out? Something to be proud of, well done. Drunk drivers should have their licenses permanently cancelled, we don't want them on our roads
