Rustenburg - A mother, 40, and her six children were burnt to death when their shack near Rustenburg caught fire in the early hours of Thursday, North West province police said.
Captain David Serepa said the Sun City fire brigade was called to the blazing shack at Chaneng village around 02:00 but were unable to put out the fire in time to save the lives of the woman and her children, aged between four and 20.
The children's father slept in a separate shack nearby and told police he was woken by people screaming.
Serepa said the cause of the fire was not yet established but police were anxious to interview a Mr Marcus Molefe, address unknown, as he could be of help in the investigation.
