Umtata - Eastern Cape police returned to a church compound at the Mandela Park informal settlement in Umtata on Thursday, where eight bodies were exhumed from shallow graves earlier in the week.
A Sapa correspondent reported that the perimeter of the compound was excavated while police searched for more bodies that could still be buried. However, nothing was found.
The remains of the eight people, which were exhumed on Tuesday, have been handed to their next of kin after state pathologist Dr Tshezi Mafanya concluded examinations.
Three church elders are to appear in the Umtata district court on Friday to apply for bail.
Twelve other men belonging to the same church were released on bail of R300 each early this week and would join their leaders on Friday.
