Durban - Another storm has battered KwaZulu-Natal, leaving more than 600 people homeless, the provincial local government department said on Friday afternoon.
"We have received information that the storm has hit the area of Newcastle, and we have been told that many people have been affected. It happened just less than an hour ago," spokesperson Vernon Mchunu said shortly after 15:00.
Almost two weeks ago storms hit parts of the province, causing damage worth more than R340m and claiming eight lives. The province was still trying to help those affected.
"We are trying to get more information on the extent of the damage of today's (Friday's) storm. We don't know how many people have been injured and we don't know whether there were any fatalities."
