Ventersburg - Northern Cape police arrested four men, including a Bulgarian citizen, in Ventersburg in the Free State on Sunday for illegally dealing in perlemoen, police said.
Inspector Stephen Thakeng said on Monday police had tailed the suspects from the Northern Cape and were following up information about the men.
The men were driving two Iveco Mercedes vehicles and police searched when they stopped at a garage.
Police impounded 148 containers with almost three tons of perlemoen with a street value of R5m. The two vehicles were confiscated.
The four would appear in the Ventersburg magistrate's court on Tuesday, Thakeng said.
