Thieves leave Germiston in dark

Johannesburg - Theft of electricity cables has left major industries in Germiston without power, the Ekurhuleni metropolitan municipality said on Tuesday.
Spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said cables were stolen in various areas in the early hours of Tuesday.
He said engineers were trying to restore power, but had some difficulties as they had to re-route the new one and the cable went through an informal settlement.
"The team is working very hard to speed up the restoration process but there is just too much work to do," he said.
He said it was projected that the situation should be normalised no earlier than Wednesday morning.
"We apologise for the inconvenience caused," Dlamini said.
Residents were warned to regard all electrical networks and equipment as live at all times until power was restored.
