Johannesburg - A 49-year-old man was arrested on Friday at the Maseru Bridge border post after he was found with dagga with an estimated street value of R2.4m, Free State police said.
Superintendent Motarafi Ntepe said three policemen were busy with patrols at the border when they saw a GP-registered Nissan truck with an open top.
"They approached the driver and requested to search the truck and 182 bags of dagga were found and confiscated."
The driver, from Taung in the North West, was arrested, and he was expected to appear in the Ladybrand magistrate's court on December 27 to face a charge of dealing in dagga.
This was the second dagga bust in the Eastern Free State since the beginning of December.
On December 12, a 35-year-old man from Phillipi near Cape Town was arrested for conveying dagga with a street value of R2m in his truck.
In both incidents both trucks were also confiscated for transporting dagga.
The provincial police commissioner of the Free State, Amon Mashigo, praised the police and said: "With this kind of personnel in the organisation, we would nab this drug dealers and save the country and its economy."
