Pretoria - The SA Consulate-General is in contact with Dubai's foreign ministry and local police over the disappearance of a South African woman in Dubai, the Department of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday.
Spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa said the Consulate-General was in touch with the family of 35-year-old Kerry Winter who went missing 12 days ago.
"Foreign Affairs and its Consulate General will continue to render assistance to the family whilst liaising with the authorities in Dubai to find closure to the matter as speedily as possible."
Kerry Winter was last seen on August 20 when neighbours spotted her being assaulted and shoved into the back of her car, her brother Kurt Winter said.
Winter and family member David Giles flew to Dubai after colleagues told them Kerry could not be found.
Winter said police had taken a man into custody after two neighbours identified him as the man who assaulted his sister.
"He has been identified as the guy who struck her... he admitted to the assault but told us he drove out to the desert with her and then left her on the side of the road," said Winter.
"He told us she was coherent and fine when he left her."
Dubai police had taken the man out into the desert for him to identify the spot where he had left her.
"They [the police] are trying to cover all angles... but it's come to nothing so far," Winter said.
Local media said Dubai police had confirmed the arrest of the man.
