Cape Town - A housewife was tied up and a neighbour shot dead during an armed robbery in Durbanville near Cape Town on Friday, police reported on Saturday.
Captain Adriaan Saulse said three armed men overpowered Mrs Dolores in her home in Aandblom Street at 12.50.
They tied Dolores up, but she screamed for help and a neighbour, Pietie Victor, 70, came to her assistance.
The gunmen fired several shots, said Saulse. Victor apparently fired back but he was hit in the chest and died on the scene.
Neighbours called the police, on arrival robbers had fled in Dolore's Toyota Corolla, Saulse said.
Dolore's husband arrived home shortly after the incident.
Police circulated a description of the vehicle, and it was spotted by a patrol in the Bishop Lavis area. The patrol arrested two men and seized the vehicle. They also seized a firearm.
The third man was still at large, said Saulse.
Some jewellery was missing from the house, said Saulse, but it was as yet uncertain whether anything else had been taken.
Victor was a retired pastor of the NG Kerk.
