Rape suspect arrested

Polokwane - A man was arrested in Modimolle on Friday for allegedly raping two women at gunpoint, Limpopo police said on Friday.

Captain Madimetja Makgakge said the women, aged between 20 and 25, were hitchhiking to Lephalale and the man offered them a lift.

"The suspect took the women to a nearby dam where he allegedly proceeded to rape them at gunpoint," he said.

"Afterwards the women told him they were going to report him to the police, but he appeared unconcerned, saying he had friends in the police in Modimolle."

Makgakge said as the man drove past the police station, the women called out to a police officer for help.

He said the man then tried to escape, but was caught and arrested.

The suspect will appear in the Modimolle Magistrates Court on Monday.
