Nelspruit - Mpumalanga police are looking for a man named Vincent Nkosi to help them in the murder investigation of ANC councillor Jimmy Mohlala, a spokesperson said on Friday.
"We are looking for Vincent Nkosi, relating to the case. We want to talk to him but he is not a suspect," said Captain Leonard Hlathi.
He said Nkosi lived in the same area as Mohlala did, in KaNyamazane in the Mbombela municipality near Nelspruit.
He said the police took two people in for questioning on Monday but they were released again on Wednesday.
Mohlala, who was the speaker of the Mbombela municipality in Nelspruit, was gunned down by two men outside his house on Sunday evening.
His son was shot and injured in the same attack.
The ruling African National Congress was in the process of instituting disciplinary action against Mohlala at the time of his murder.
This was because he refused an ANC order to step down as speaker following reports that he blew the whistle on a colleague, who was accused of involvement in corrupt 2010 construction tenders.
A funeral service for Mohlala will be held at a sports stadium at KaNyamazane on Friday.
