Pretoria - Mathematics and maths literacy was still a problem in schools, Umalusi - the Council for Quality Assessment in General and Further Education and Training - said on Wednesday.
"There was low performance in mathematics and mathematics literacy across all levels," chairperson of the Umalusi council, John Volmink said.
Umalusi approved the 2007 national examination results for senior certificate, ABET - adult basic education training - and VET - vocational education and training - as "consistent with policy".
When it came to exam irregularities, Volmink said there had been no major irregularities.
"All irregularities were adequately addressed by the provincial and national education department," he said.
Referring to the public servants strike, he said that "we will have to wait and see what the effects are once the results have been released by the minister".
Over forty thousand pupils sat for the 2007 matric exam nationwide.
