Son held for mom's murder

Johannesburg - A man was arrested at Madadeni near Newcastle in northern KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday after he allegedly hired hitmen to kill his adoptive mother more than a year ago, Johannesburg police reported.
Assistant commissioner Gert de Lange of the East Rand police said the mother was shot dead in Kwa-Thema near Springs on December 22, 2001.
The victim was a taxi owner and the murder was thought to be a part of taxi violence.
On Sunday, police received information that the woman had been killed by two hitmen hired by her adopted son.
They traced the son to Newcastle and arrested him.
