Durban - The Durban North deputy area commissioner appeared in the magistrate's court on Monday charged with reckless and negligent driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Director Hlebekisa Hezekiel Mncwango was arrested by Durban metro police on Sunday after he allegedly forced a woman driver off the road.
Metro police said the incident happened on the N3 heading into Durban and close to the city centre.
It was alleged the woman was travelling in the centre lane and Mncwango in the right lane.
He allegedly forced the woman's car to the extreme left
where it smashed into the crash barrier and stopped. Mncwango then also lost control of his car and crashed.
Neither the woman nor Mncwango was injured in the accident.
Mncwango was arrested by metro police and released on bail of R500. The hearing was adjourned to January 28.
