Johannesburg - Six car thieves between 16 and 24 have been arrested in connection with theft and robbery in Bakerton, Springs, said East Rand police on Tuesday.
Superintendent Andy Pieke said five people were arrested shortly after trying to steal a minibus in the area on Monday about 23:50.
On further investigation, police got information which led to the arrest of the sixth thief.
The six have also been linked to the robbery of a stationwagon in Struisbult in Springs on December 4. They apparently used that vehicle to steal another in Selection Park and one in Sharon Park.
The robbers used the vehicles to steal two television sets, suitcases, as well as a another car from a house in Dalpark in Brakpan, said Pieke.
Police recovered three vehicles in KwaThema on December 6.
Police suspect the gang might be linked to more robberies in the Springs area.
