Johannesburg - Two men who were arrested in December in Germiston and Beit
Bridge for the multi-million dollar heist at the Johannesburg
International Airport, appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrate's
Court on Tuesday.
Leonard Dube will appear in court again on March 7 and Winston
Pennington will appear next week Tuesday to apply for bail.
The charges an employee of the Johannesburg International
Airport's Apron Services faced in connection with the heist were
withdrawn two weeks ago due to a lack of evidence.
Three other Johannesburg International Airport security guards who were also arrested in connection with the robbery, had their
charges provisionally withdrawn earlier in January.
Another person linked to the robbery was shot dead by police in
Dawn Park, Boksburg.
A gang of between five and eight men held up security guards at
the airport on December 27 and forced them to load cargo onto a
white Nissan one-ton truck.
As they drove off, one of the robbers shot a security guard who
was approaching the truck. The guard was hit in the leg.
The robbers got away with $9.5 million, $93 000
worth of diamonds and $8 000 worth of jewellery.
