Malalane - A 34-year-old Mpumalanga prosecutor has been charged with repeatedly raping his 16-year-old adopted sister at his family's house on Sunday.
The prosecutor, who cannot be named to protect the teenager's identity, was arrested on Monday when the case was reported to the Schoemansdal police.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Abie Khoabane said the prosecutor's family had adopted the girl some years ago when her parents died.
She was living with them in Driekoppies village near the Swaziland border.
On Sunday, she was visiting friends when the prosecutor allegedly phoned her and told her to meet him on the road because their parents had asked him to take her home.
"She said she was locked in his room and raped throughout Sunday night," said Khoabane.
She told her aunt, who alerted a local women's organisation, and the case was reported to the police.
The prosecutor was not asked to plead to charges of rape when he appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
He was released on R1 000 bail and the case was postponed to August 27 for further investigation.
