Parly committee to visit jails

Johannesburg - Parliament's portfolio committee on Correctional Services will visit three prisons in Gauteng this week.
Chairperson Dennis Bloem said the committee would be briefed on the community correctional supervision centres and discussions would be held with the parole board to check if it was effective and functional.
The committee would visit the Modderbee prison in Benoni on Monday, Nigel prison on Tuesday and a Johannesburg prison on Wednesday.
Bloem said discussions would also be held with staff and prisoners about their problems and concerns.
