Johannesburg - A 17-year-old boy was arrested at a Roodepoort school on Thursday after allegedly being found in possession of a firearm, police said.
Captain Paula Nothnagel said a teacher at the school reported that one of the pupils had brought a pistol to school and members of the West Rand dog unit went to the school about 13:00.
The teenager was identified by a teacher and was then arrested for illegal possession of a firearm.
The boy told police he had found the gun in an open field near the Lindhaven shopping complex earlier in the week.
He would appear in the Roodepoort magistrate's court on Friday, Nothnagel said.
