Johannesburg - A 34-year-old man was in a critical condition after an unknown man shot him during a road-rage incident in Mayfair, Johannesburg, on Sunday afternoon, said police.
The man apparently had stepped out of his car to inspect the damage after a four-car pile-up when a passenger from one of the other cars got out and shot him, said captain Julia Claassen.
"The men then fled in the three cars - a white Nissan, a green Maxima and a red Toyota," she said.
Police gave chase immediately afterwards, but the men managed to get away.
"They abandoned their cars and fled into a building in Mayfair, but when police went in after them, they had escaped."
It was not known how the men managed to escape from the building.
Police are searching for five men.
The injured man is being treated in hospital.
