Cape Town - Officials of the agriculture and land affairs departments have been paid out R1.5m during the past three years while they have been suspended on full pay.

According to a written reply given on Thursday to a question from Kraai van Niekerk of the Democratic Alliance, Minister Lulama Xingwana said that no agriculture officials were suspended, but two land affairs officials were.

One of the land affairs officials has been sitting at home drawing his full salary for 41 months.

The minister gave no indication of what offences the officials were facing, but she did say that one of them was a member of the department's senior management.
