Johannesburg - A motorist was arrested for doing 152km/h in his black Volkswagen Golf near Diepkloof, Soweto, Johannesburg Metro Police said on Saturday.
The 40-year-old man was one of 18 motorists arrested at a roadblock for speeding in a 60km/h zone on Friday night, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said.
"The speedster told police he was rushing to a friend who was ill in the Johannesburg CBD. But he failed to give police details of his friend when asked for them," he said.
Minnaar said the 18 were arrested and release on R1 000 bail each.
They would appear in the Orlando Magistrate's Court on Monday to face charges of reckless driving.
Metro police urged motorists to stop speeding on all roads at night.
