Port Elizabeth - Lynda Odendaal is trying to create sensation with her resignation from the party, and also "suffers from victim syndrome," Eastern Cape Cope leader, Andile Nkuhlu, believes.
Nkuhlu is in trouble after a complaint of intimidation was lodged against him with police, regarding a cellphone message in which he allegedly threatened Odendaal. Nkuhlu admitted to leaving the message, "but it was definitely not a threat".
On Sunday he said he was resentful about Odendaal's statements to the Daily Dispatch regarding the party's leadership."I consider (that to be) a personal attack on my character.
"Her husband phoned back immediately and I repeated the message to him. I said if she's going to keep attacking my integrity, I will have no other choice but to fight fire with fire. This is a statement, not a threat. I have no reason to threaten her life," he said.
Odendaal resigned from the party on Tuesday. She couldn't be reached for comment on Sunday. Meanwhile, Philda Essop reports that, over the past weekend, the national committee of Cope had done "comprehensive revision" of the party's situation in the midst of the leadership challenges.
