Johannesburg - Women should be treated as equal partners in the rebirth of the African continent, said ANC president Jacob Zuma according to an SABC report.
Zuma, speaking at the closing of the Pan African Women's Organisation in Gauteng, said women in key and leadership positions have earned those positions and men were not just doing them a favour by putting them there.
"Women are not being done a favour by men if voted into positions of power and influence... they have earned this right through decades of hard work. African women have a key role to play in the formulation of strategies and plans for the development of their respective countries and continent," he said.
The four-day meeting was attended by more than 350 representatives from all of the 53 African Union member states.
