Johannesburg - Speed limits have been reduced on the N1 freeway near the Gautrain construction sites, Johannesburg metro police said on Tuesday.
Spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said limits had been reduced from 120km/h to 80 and 60km/h.
Motorists caught not adhering to these limits would be fined.
"Those motorists travelling at 120km/h in the 80km/h zone will get a R900 fine," he said.
The speed limit was reduced to allow trucks to move in and out of the construction site and for the safety of workers as well as motorists.
