Durban - The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) claimed on Friday that five of its councillors had been arrested amid claims of attempting to murder a member who crossed the floor to the African National Congress.
Police could not immediately confirm the claims.
According to an IFP statement, an unnamed floor-crosser went to police claiming that five IFP councillors from three separate municipalities had attempted to kill him.
The statement read: "They are currently being held by the South African Police Service. Details are sketchy and not even their families know where they are being held."
The party has demanded their immediate release, describing their arrest as political interference and manipulation.
