Johannesburg - The African National Congress was likely to capture the Western Cape with 36 percent of the vote in Wednesday's local government poll, a new Markinor survey has found.
SABC radio news said on Sunday the survey gave the Democratic Alliance 26% of the vote in the Western Cape and the Independent Democrats 10%.
The fieldwork for the survey was done in November and entailed personal interviews with 3 500 people.
It indicated most registered voters intend voting this week, although they did not believe it was their duty to do so.
The commitment found among voters to take part might be driven by a need to register their feelings on delivery issues.
The poll found the vast majority of ANC and DA supporters felt it was easy to decide which party to support.
The ID's strongest support appeared to be in the Northern Cape, where the party was likely to come second to the ANC with 16% of the vote.
One percent of voters in the Northern Cape indicated they would support the DA.
