Cape Town - South African satirist Pieter-Dirk
Uys (aka Evita Bezuidenhout) has come out in support of former Pan Africanist Congress MP Patricia de Lille's new political party.
In an e-mail circulated to friends and contacts, the Darling, Western Cape-based Uys urges members of the public to email De Lille.
De Lille, a veteran opposition MP, left the Pan Africanist Congress during the 15-day period which ended on Friday for political defections and joined a party which has yet to be launched - the Independent Democrats.
Uys says in his email: "Dear all, Patricia de Lille has formed her own party at last! The Independent Democrats. A new political party with roots in the rainbow democracy." De Lille has been in parliament since democracy in 1994.
"And with Patricia de Lille leading this new party towards better tomorrow, I look forward to challenging new satirical material!" said Uys, who regularly dons the outfit and wig of former Ambassadress to the (fictional) independent
homeland of Bapetikosweti, Evita Bezuidenhout. - I-Net Bridge
