Cape Town - The Democratic Alliance is still in discussions with other parties about governing in the Cape Town metro after Wednesday's municipal election, party spokesperson Ryan Coetzee said on Sunday.
Briefing the media at Parliament, he said the DA would act in the interests of the voters who voted for the party to be in government, but "not at any price".
Coetzee did not identify the other parties the DA was talking to, but said nothing had yet been finalised.
On Wednesday, the DA took 90 of the city's 210 seats, the ANC 81, the Independent Democrats 23, and the African Christian Democratic Party seven.
The remaining seats were split among various smaller parties, leaving no party with an absolute majority on the council.
ID leader Patricia de Lille, who effectively holds the balance of power in the city and in some other municipalities in the province, has repeatedly stated that her party is not interested in forming coalitions with any other party.
